Rating: ★★★★☆ Rated and reviewed around 2012 This pub/restaurant is part of the Beiaard Groep which at time of writing consists of 4 establishments, of which 2 in Amsterdam. Their collection of beers is above average (though still far from that of for instance Kafée België in Utrecht) and includes beers such as the honey beer Barbar as well as beers from their own brewery. For a list of beers, visit their website at http://www.beiaardgroep.eu/amsterdam/kloveniersbrugwal/bierkaart-6/ though they also frequently have seasonal beers or other specials. Food is excellent and priced just above average. Apart from the usual menu, they often have day or week specials. Though the vegetarian choice is limited, the specials usually include a vegetarian one too, making sure you can revisit the place without always being forced the same choice. Personally I like a good piece of meat or fish in my meal though, so I have plenty of choices available. They usually also have a beer menu in which the meal is prepared with beer, and/or comes with a beer suggestion. Service is okay, though if you come unannounced with a fairly large group, they don't always make you feel welcome, firmly insisting that you make a reservation next time, even at nights when the place isn't packed. Apart from that the employees are usually friendly and check frequently if everything is okay and satisfactory. The décor is quite nice with the walls plastered with beer signs from beers all over the world (sadly though they don't have all of the beers they display on those signs). The wooden chairs, benches and tables are decent, clean, but well-used. The bathrooms downstairs are often clean, though accessories like hand-dryers don't always work well (and paper towels are lacking). If you are in the neighbourhood and fancy checking out some uncommon beers and could do with a filling portion of food, I'd recommend visiting this place.
